Native Herps & Hot Snakes
On July 25, 2008 our guest speaker will be
Al Wolf, the founding father of the
Sonoma County Reptile Rescue.
At our meeting, Al will talk with us about native reptiles, and especially about
local rattlesnakes. Since Al does rattlesnake relocation, he is sure to have several
live specimins to show us.
In addition to educational presentations and caring for the the many animals at the
sanctuary, Al does native reptile (think rattlesnake) removal and relocation.
In the spring when the weather starts to warm up, Al may get 5-10 calls a day
to relocate these serpents from people's gardens to more remote locations.
In addition to relocating rattlesnakes, Al rehomes other types of snakes,
iguanas and turtles and tortoises.
Al has been a lover of reptiles since childhood, and has an extensive background in
reptile care, animal husbandry, and conservation. He has worked with the San Francisco Zoo,
Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, Animal Planet, and Louise A. Boyd Museum of Natural History.
Al is currently the director of the Sonoma County Reptile Rescue, and has recently been
involved with filming for a British television series, "Animal Rescue Squad".

Doors will open at 7:30PM and
the meeting will start at 8:00PM.
Visitors are always welcome at our meetings.
BAARS publishes a monthly newsletter
for its members that is packed with reptile tidbits
and information. In addition, the club has a large library of reptile books, magazines and videos,
and members receive discounts at several
reptile stores.
At our meetings we often have speakers on
subjects such as conservation, care and medical treatment, captive breeding, field studies,
as well as many other interesting areas of herpetology.
We also have workshops where people can bring their pets, relate their many experiences,
and share their knowledge.
In addition, BAARS organizes and participates in a number of live
shows, exhibits, and presentations.
Our members have a wide variety of herps which can be seen and usually handled at our
meetings and events.
