Contact Information
To list an animal for adoption, or to request contact information for an animal you would like to adopt, email the BAARS Adoptions Coordinator at goBaars@yahoo.com. Please, include the reference number and the type of animal on the subject line.

The Bay Area Amphibian and Reptile Society serves the larger San Francisco Bay Area. For animals located outside this area, please, contact an adoption service in your area. Check out Melissa Kaplan's site or PetFinder.com for some possible services.

Listing Animals
To list an animal for adoption, submit the listing request form at the bottom of this page, or email the BAARS Adoptions Coordinator and provide as much information as possible.

Listings are posted as soon as possible at this website until the owner withdraws the listing or for about 6 months, whichever comes first. Listings are printed in the next monthly BAARS newsletter once, unless relisting is requested.

Adopting Animals
To adopt a listed animal, email the BAARS Adoptions Coordinator, who will send you contact information for the animal. It is up to the owner to interview potential adopters and to decide whom to adopt to. Any arrangements for transfer and/or shipping are also to be made between the owner and the adopter.
PLEASE email the BAARS Adoptions Coordinator after you adopt an animal so that the animal can be unlisted.

Fees
Listing an animal in the newsletter and/or at this website is free. Most animals through this website are also free, however there may be a small fee for some animals. We encourage low adoptions fees for our current BAARS members.

Animals and Supplies For Sale
In addition to adoptions, we occasionally have animals and/or supplies available for sale by our members. Please check out out Classifieds page for these items.

Supporting BAARS Adoptions
If you adopt an animal from BAARS adoptions, or if you are listing an animal with BAARS Adoptions, we encourage you to make a small donation to BAARS Adoptions to help us cover our expenses, such as this website, the BAARS newsletter, care of animals left with us and their vet bills, and hundreds of long-distance phone calls. To support BAARS Adoptions, send your donation of any amount to:

Water Turtles

Numerous Red-Eared Slider Turtles, both male and female, various sizes (typically 4-8"). If you want to adopt a turtle and would like to chose from a variety, this is your chance. If you think you may want to adopt a turtle but are not sure, send email for guidance. Remember, these turtles WILL grow (to 10-12"), and keeping them in a small tank will NOT keep them small; it is just cruel and they will become stressed, sick and die.
Two very pretty red eared slider turtles These turtles have all been taken into foster care; some are rescues from one of the local humane societies; others were recieved from individuals who could no longer care for them. They all appear healthy: they are active, eating well and have no apparent health issues.

Current diet: Primarily floating turtle sticks, occasionally supplemented with romaine lettuce and other veggies, worms, snails, and crickets.
Additional Information: For local adoptions only - these turtles will not be shipped.
Level of Urgency: Just looking for good homes.
Location (City): Being fostered in San Jose

Note: additional water turtles may be available through the Silicon Valley Branch of the California Turtle and Tortoise Club.  If interested, check their website at CTTC - Silicon Valley or email their adoptions coordinator, Kevin Norred.

Other Lizards

"I am a Leopard Gecko." Leopard Gecko, male, 7", 4 yrs old
Health status: active and healthy, but has some issues
Disposition: feisty, doesn't bite, but doesn't like to be held
Current Diet: mealworms & crickets
Accessories (Cage, Food): all come with animal (20 gal. reptile tank)
Reason for Adoption Request: child who owned the pet no longer cares for him, interest has waned due to other interests
Location (City): San Carlos
Level of Urgency: I am taking care of him now and don't mind it, but think he'd be happier where he is appreciated and paid attention to. He really is very cute.
Special Needs: needs TLC, one foot compromised due to bad sheds during illness, vision and coordination somewhat impaired also--sometimes has difficulty catching live food, but will try repeatedly -- hand feeding easy.
